Remodel / Repurpose – 14,500 SF of Bakery & Bar
This Legacy Church project involved the complete interior remodel of a former bakery and bar in the La Mesa Springs shopping center. The smaller bakery unit has been remodeled into a children’s worship space, with four classrooms and a larger multi-use room. The larger unit, which was a bar, has been transformed into a new sanctuary, with supporting lobby, cafe, classrooms and admin office spaces. BGW had to remove much of the existing wood roof support structure and provide new steel jack beam assemblies to clear the sanctuary of columns. During this process the existing roof and mezzanine structures have been brought up to current seismic design requirements. The new sanctuary has seating for roughly 425, distributed on the main floor and upper balcony seating areas. The building design centered on exposing much of the rough sawn timber framing and steel, which were previously covered up, to provide a unique, repurposed church environment.
