Fellowship in the Pass is a church that celebrates through worship – and designed a facility that reflects that focus. They had outgrown their existing 450-seat sanctuary, and with two buildings already on site, elected to add a third. They began the building design around a large 900-seat sanctuary with lobby and nursery space completing the 25,400 square feet. Welcoming guests and members from the parking lot is a large volume entry with a lobby cafe. The tall ceilings in this lobby space are softened by natural light from overhead skylights and soffit canopies that designate the cafe and visitor center.

Along with doubling the seating, the church also focused on creating performance and support space for their well-defined choir and worship program. The stage captures more than 2,000 SF of space and allows 50 choir members to be seated for the full service. The BGW design team created a music room to the rear of the worship center that mirrored the platform space and layout so a dress rehearsal could be just that. The performance quality audio/visual will allow the church’s music ministry to reach out through cantatas, special performances and community events. The worship center’s acoustic ceiling was designed with return edge “cloud” system for optimal sound quality. The pre-existing facilities are now used by church members for Sunday School, youth activities and fellowship events. The new sanctuary was placed to the north, framing an outdoor courtyard. Matching architectural elements were required to pull the three buildings together; and the exposed clay tile roof fits the regional southern California motif.

“Our experience was that BGW truly wants to honor the Lord in all they do. As they are seeking to glorify God by helping churches, the level of expertise and professionalism is extremely high.” – Pastor Walter Price, Fellowship in the Pass Church
