.ORG Groups Serve During Construction

We were introduced to the first .ORG group at Grace Baptist Church of White Salmon, WA. Ken Block, one of the original .ORG group, said there were a group of retired men that wanted to be involved. They would joke around on the jobsite about being the Old Retired Guys. “That made us the dot-org gang,” says Ken. “That became the acronym we used in our announcements, “We talked about how the .ORG gang was going to be working on stripping forms – come and help. It was kind of a club. They really prided themselves in the amount of money they were saving, and how they were helping the church get into this building in a cost-effective way.”

Since the completion of Ken’s 21,000-square-foot church back in 2005, we’ve continued to see increasing number of .ORG groups serving on BGW jobsites across the country. These “old retired guys” have been coming to serve Building God’s Way projects for fellowship and to support both construction and ministry. They are invaluable in reducing costs on the project – running errands, managing materials, cleaning the site, pulling wires, operating the “other” end of the measuring tape – and also do the unmeasurable work of building Godly relationships with the workers. Many .ORG groups join in weekly ministry lunches and prayer meetings; their daily greetings will become the highlight of the workday.

Involvement from all age groups is a key part of the BGW ministry of construction… and you may be surprised with the results on your jobsite. Click here to read more about ministry philosophy of BGW.
